TRANSLATOR Interview (Fingerprints Music)

“Sometimes People Don’t Forget”

Exactly one year ago today, we had the honor of meeting the guys from Translator at their in-store performance at Fingerprints Records in Long Beach, California. This venue was a perfect backdrop for their show, with fans eagerly purchasing copies of the band’s newest release entitled “Sometimes People Forget.”

Their performance was just what I would expect from this band. Energetic, jangly guitar with enough Beatle-esque moments and classic tracks to satisfy the most hardcore Translator purists in the audience. Some of the standouts included “Fiendish Thingy,” “Gravity,” and “I’ll Be Your Summer.”

After the show we were able to all coalesce upstairs and talk in great detail about the impressive legacy of the band, including their tenure on 415 Records with fellow labelmates Wire Train and Romeo Void. I also got to witness firsthand the camaraderie, humor and admiration that these lads clearly had for one another after decades of performing.

It was also a memorable night for me personally; finally getting to talk to the band about one of the earliest music videos I recall seeing on MTV in the 80’s (that being their iconic video for “Everywhere That I’m Not”). I was able to talk to David about his signature “jaw drop” exaggerated response in the video, which to this day still elicits a great deal of guttural yet reverential belly laughter from this author everytime I behold this scene!

Getting these four experienced musicians together for this interview truly felt like a “once in a lifetime” experience that I’m still very thankful for. Although the video for our interview has been on YouTube for fans to see for some time, this is the first time here on the official Inner Edge Music site that we’ve posted it with the context (and expression of gratitude) that it deserves. In honor of this special occasion, happening exactly one year ago today, we again bring you this in-depth interview with the guys from Translator:

Thanks to Steve, Dave, Bob, Larry and the good folks at Fingerprints Music for making this memorable evening happen.
